History and Development

The Public Health Bureau of Tainan County has its origin dating back to the time when a health Section was created under the Police Department of period of Tainan Chou during the Japanese Occupation to manage the health administrative affairs.  It was established in January of 1946 as Tainan Chou was reorganized to Tainan County after the restoration of Taiwan . Health Section was established under Civic Affairs Bureau of the Tainan County Government for all the health-related affairs in the county. In May, Health Section was reorganized as Health Yuan of Tainan County, and formally founded on June 1st. There were 31 village and town health bureaus under it（it was under the jurisdiction of a township or village government in July, 1960, but it was then under the jurisdiction of Health Bureau again on July 1st, 1974）. A county-level hospital was founded under the OPD of Health Bureau in 1948. The Health Yuan was restructured to the Public Health Bureau of Tainan County on July 15th, 1961 under the Order of Taiwan government. The TB Prevention Center of Tainan county was founded on January 30th, 1970 (which was renamed as Chronic Disease Center of Tainan County in 1989) was under the jurisdiction of this bureau.
